Last week I found Bradley (my black Lab) staring proudly at a sock he did not chew up.
Just stared. Chest puffed out. Waiting for applause.
And I laughed because… honestly?
Humans aren’t much different.
We rarely celebrate the small wins.
We walk right past them like they don’t count.
But they do. Especially when you’re learning tech later in life.
A few months ago, Frank admitted something:
“Bob, I thought AI was going to eat me alive. Now I’m using it to organize grocery lists.”
He said it like it didn’t matter.
But it mattered a lot.
Because confidence comes from exactly that kind of thing, the tiny steps you assume are too small to celebrate.
Let me confess a mistake of my own:
When I started, I dismissed these “little” milestones too.
I thought the only wins worth celebrating were income wins.
Turns out the real wins come long before that.

Here’s a simple way to see just how far you’ve come:
1. List 3 things you can do now that you couldn’t last January.
Examples:
Opening ChatGPT without feeling nervous
Creating a simple post
Uploading a file
Using copy/paste without breaking anything
Understanding a scam faster than before
Tiny things count. Especially tiny things.
2. List one moment where you surprised yourself.
Maybe you solved a problem.
Maybe you helped someone else.
Maybe you didn’t panic when a button moved.
3. Write this question at the top of your notes:
“If this is what I can learn in a year… what else am I capable of?”
Because that question is fuel.
